Cats in the Crossfire.

Tuesday, August 1, 2006

The knuckleheads in the Middle East are at it again, and in addition to the human toll there's an animal problem, too, as seen in th video below (requires Quicktime). From contributor Jonathan in Israel:

"Thought you might like to hear how the cats are getting on in the middle of Katyusha country (Ma'alot, about 6 km south of Lebanon).

As I mentioned before, we have a number of "outside" cats in my neighborhood - both strays and house cats - with a number of people looking after them. At the moment about 8o% of the population has fled to the safer south (I'm a doctor in the local hospital so I get to stay and work!) and there were a lot of hungry moggies left behind - we are going through about 18 kilos of Tuffy cat food a week... fortunately because of the rocket attacks I can't inspect my garden to see where its all coming out!

Below is a video of feeding time this afternoon - it's hard to count them because there are a lot of kittens who flee from me in fear but I think all together there are 25-30 mouths. We also have some abandoned budgies as you can see - they make great entertainment for the cats that sit and look and lick their lips..."

Thanks for sharing, Jonathan!
